In places where everything turns white in winter and slopes are steep and we go about our favourite pastime, tracing arcs into the snow, sheep graze in the summer. Big sheep, little sheep, white and black. They all have one thing in common: wool. A sustainable resource that has not only protected generations of people from the cold, but has been a valuable commodity and still is among mountain peoples. In recent years, wool has been replaced by synthetic fabrics as a material for sports clothing. Now the warming, protective, natural and sustainable good is experiencing a renaissance.


The developers at ALPINA have worked with lavalan®, a Bavarian wool production near Dinkelsbühl, to create something unique: Prolan™. Wool that protects. Not only from the cold, bad odours and plastic in the ocean. Prolan™ is sheep’s wool that has been processed in such a way that the cushioning properties go beyond the functionality of traditional protectors.

  • Prolan: Wool protector made of pressed sheep's wool

  • Protection: Prolan meets the highest standards for safety. The damping properties of the Prolan work in all temperatures, and therefore provide reliable protection without compromise in all conditions

  • Comfort: The Prolan protector adjusts naturally to the back, making it extremely comfortable to wear and ensuring optimal freedom of movement

  • Body Climate: Prolan provides even warmth and protection against overheating. The breathability of the wool ensures a climate that is always comfortable regardless of activity level and weather conditions

  • Odourless: The wool’s moisture management and the self-cleaning function of its fibres prevent unpleasant odours from forming due to sweat

  • Sustainability: Wool is a naturally renewable resource. The wool is obtained exclusively from European sheep, avoiding the need for long transport routes. European wool is mulesing-free

  • Mobile phone pouch: Bag in which a mobile phone can be stored safely and warm

  • Side impact protection: A side impact protection integrated in the abdominal belt offers additional protection in case of a fall

  • Waistband: Waist strap with Velcro closure and protective flap to prevent catching underlayer

  • YKK® front zip: YKK® front zipper ensures durability and dependability
